Memorable Day Tour to Abu Simbel Temples

Abu Simbel, a village located in southern Egypt's Nubia region, is renowned for its impressive twin rock temples. The Great Temple of Ramses II and the smaller Temple of Hathor are the prominent structures that define this historic site. Situated on the western bank of Lake Nasser, approximately 230 km southwest of Aswan, Abu Simbel forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "Nubian Monuments," extending from Abu Simbel to Philae near Aswan. These temples, carved out of the mountainside during the rule of Pharaoh Ramesses II in the 13th century BC, were originally intended as a lasting tribute to the pharaoh himself, his queen Nefertari, and to commemorate his supposed victory at the Battle of Kadesh while also serving as a display of power towards neighboring Nubian civilizations.

However, in 1968, the entire complex underwent a monumental relocation process. The temples were carefully moved to an artificial hill constructed from a domed structure, situated high above the reservoir of the Aswan High Dam. This relocation was necessary to prevent the temples from being submerged when the vast Lake Nasser was formed following the construction of the dam on the Nile River. Today, Abu Simbel continues to captivate visitors from around the world and remains one of Egypt's most popular tourist destinations.

When you visit Abu Simbel, you will have the privilege of a knowledgeable Egyptologist guiding you through the site. Traveling in an air-conditioned vehicle exclusively for you and your companion, your guide will provide insightful explanations about the history of this remarkable location. They will recount the accidental discovery of the temples in 1813, as well as the significance of the four rock-hewn pharaohs. Please note that due to the high volume of visitors, guides are not allowed inside the temples during your visit. Upon the conclusion of your tour, you will be transported back to your hotel.
